Top wake bait in the east
Michael Carter (Winchester, KY) 1/8/2009 8:02 AM
While it is a jerkbait the Long A is mostly known as a wakebait in the east. While it does work as a traditional floating jerkbait it is best suited for waking. The first thing you need to know is GET A SOLID COLOR for waking. The flash colors arent weighted the same and dont work as well. 90% of the people who wake a Long A only use chrome. And many scratch the chrome up on purpose to get a bone chrome look. Another modification is to remove the split ring on the front of the bait. Anthing you can do to reduce weight and help keep the bait on top helps. Waking a long A is simple just make long casts and reel steady as fast as possible while keeping the bait on top. Its a technique only used in clear deep lakes but when its working it is the best way to catch fish. You hear rumors that only the old bombers work but the newer bombers work fine if they are chrome or a solid color. I dont like the stock hooks and usually replace them but overall the Long A isnt bad for the price. sb-mrbassky1
