Twist on beaver baits
Michael Carter (Winchester, KY) 2/18/2009 2:19 PM
The ugly otter looks like a beaver bait and fishes like one for the most part. But the paddle tail gives it more action and less of the gliding action a beaver has. I tried mine because the beavers weren't available yet in my area and it looked like a good substitute. What I found was a different bait. The colors on these are nice and compared to a beaver it is much thicker. As a result the otter has become a strong flipping option for me. The thicker body gives a larger profile and while I like the gliding action of a beaver in open water when your fishing thick cover with a 1oz weight nothing glides. The tails has more action than a beaver when you shake it. I still go with a beaver a lot but when I want something bigger I tend to pick the otter. And in the thickest cover I like the extra bulk sometimes. It actually looks like a cane toad which is why it makes a great follow up bait to frog strikes. If you like flipping soft plastics try the otter. You can always use another option. sb-mrbassky1

A lot of Bump and Thump
Brandon Young (warren, RI) 1/17/2009 11:48 PM
This is one of my favorite jig trailers. It may be called an Ugly Otter but the bumping and thumping you can see and feel will make you love them. These baits surpass a lot on the market today and even have a smaller version Otter that works just as well. They are built strong enough that I bought about 4 packages in the beginning of the season and I still have about a pack left in my box. Now I fish just about every weekend and some days before work, I know my wife says I have a problem but what you going to do. This Otter also is a great creature bait Texas rigged and pitched deep under brush in lay downs and stumps. If you see me on the water check out my jig bet you’ll see an Ugly Otter on my jig in that special EP's Secret color. BestNetManAround
