Hard Baits, Crank Baits, Vibration Baits, Rattle Baits Rip Baits and Top Water Baits
Hard Baits include crank baits, vibration baits, rattle baits, rip baits and top water baits.
Hard baits refers to a number of different fishing bait styles. Including crank baits, vibrations or rattle baits, rip baits and top water baits. These baits are effective when fish are actively feeding and are typically more effective in warmer water.
Crank baits are floating baits that dive to a specified depth on the retrieve. Generally, the larger the bill on the bait the deeper it dives. These baits are most effective when deflecting off structure enticing the hungry bass to feed.
Vibration or rattle baits are baits the sink when they hit the water and can be retrieved at any depth based on the retrieve speed. When bass are "wolf packing" or feeding in groups a vibration bait is hard to beat. Different models of vibration baits have differents sounds. Often a fish will react to one sound and not another. Therefore, it is highly recommended that you have several models or brands of these baits handy when the situation calls for a vibration bait.
Rip baits are fantastic baits for the sluggish feeding bass. Rip baits float but, the dive to a specified depth upon being "ripped" through the water surface. Ripping the bait at a number of different tempos is important until you find what the bass are looking for. Some of the best rip baiters claim to sometimes pause for up to a minute between rips.
Top water bait fishing can be some of the most fun you can have. Fish feeding at or near the surface will often fall prey to these types of baits. Walking style baits, poppers and other forms of top water baits can all be very productive from spring through the fall. Top water baits can often work all day long but, are especially effective in low light conditions (early morning and early evening).
