just like a wounded baitfish

When I got this lure, I was very impressed with the rainbow trout color and it was one of the first wake baits I bought. When I threw it, I noticed it wouldn't swim unless retrieved at a fast cadence or retrieve. When you slow roll it, the bait just moves right back at you without moving side to side. I really like the bait when burning it back to the boat and it looks just like a wounded baitfish trying to escape. SBN: TNT

Finesse wakebait

One of the smallest premium wakebaits around. The Mikey Jr. is not even really a swimbait but more standard topwater bait. I don't even keep mine in my swimbait box it stays in my topwater box. The Mikey Jr. is a good bait if you look at it as another topwater bait and not a traditional swimbait. It catches fish but isn't a bait you want to hunt hawgs with. I throw mine on bigger crankbait rod with 17lb mono. One thing I noticed about this bait is it can be waked a lot easier with heavy mono and you need to start your retrieve quick if you want to keep it on top. Like a lot of swimbaits/wakebaits its better fished on top than swam in. I catch fish swimming it but only when I give it an erratic action The best thing about the swimming action is if you are getting follows and get a fish to take it on top you can make it dive and sometimes the fish will hit it. Also you can cover water a little faster. The Mikey Jr doesn't run great and is disappointing if you consider it a crankbait. The colors are great and its a quality bait but not a go to lure for me, but in clear water in hard times I could see this bait saving the day. The biggest key is to remember its a finesse bait and not a power bait. The only way to catch fish on these is to slow down the action this just isn't that great at faster speeds.

I bought this swimbait not thinking much of it. I brought it to Lake Arrowhead, a lake where not many fish are caught, and to my surprise, second cast out I had a smallmouth on! Later that day 3 more smallmouths clung on! In my opinion, it works best at either straight retrieve, or twitching and dead sticking it slowly. Colors I Recommend: 1. Chartreuse Shad, 2. Rainbow Trout.
This is by far thee best small swimbait I have used to catch smallmouth bass on. What a surprising find!
