While square bill crankbaits have been popular for years the BDS baits are the first plastic shallow runners to gain similar fame as the wooden versions. Although the BDS4 isn't really a shallow diver (it dives 6ft) it is still a good crankbait for fishing shallower cover. Since its a LC bait it has great colors and components. And it has an action that is very close to what you would see in a wooden bait. I don't know how they do it but the action is incredible. You hear a lot about shallow runners having a hunting action and Lucky Craft lures are the only plastic baits I have seen with this action. Even if you don't use plastic crankbaits you would be hard pressed to find a wooden square bill that dives to 6 feet. For fishing grass the BDS baits seem to work better at coming through grass than any shallow runners I have used. And in fact in all the BDS baits are what I use most often for my shallow cranking anymore. The BDS4 being my choice for catching biggest bass or when fish are feeding on bigger prey. Its worth noting for clear water no other shallow runners have the color selection the BDS baits do. The rattles are another plus no wooden shallow runners have a rattle as good as the BDS baits. The BDS4 is almost more of a medium diver but it is still a great bait. Aside from being a shallow crankbait it also is great for fishing shallower structure instead of using the same old smaller medium divers.
