Optimum Swimbaits

Optimum Baits was established in 1996, with the purpose of providing the angler with an arsenal of the finest lures to maximize their time out on the water. Optimum Baits offers over 15 different styles ranging from 2 inches to 16 inches in 50 different colors to make sure there is a lure for every fishing condition. Sean Donavan, the inventor of the original Optimum, developed his bait from the shore lines of Lake Castaic and Casitas where stocked rainbow trout are the meal of choice for lunker bass. Optimum Baits was the first company to release a swim bait where the jig head is internally built into the bait.

Any fish that feeds on large baitfish is now within reach with the release of the O.B. Minnow by Optimum Bait Co. The patented hand crafted wood minnow is known for its natural trout (large baitfish) like action and can be fished multiple ways. When fished with a slow retrieve, the tail creates a wake on the surface while the body slowly rolls producing a deadly swimming action. This wake like action is ideal for shallow areas or over submerged brush, weeds or grass and creates the thrill of a lifetime when the explosive topwater strike occurs. Cranking the bait faster allows the bait to dive to ranges of 4-5 feet for the lunkers hanging around deeper edges and points. For those whopper size striper and lake trout, surface trolling the minnow is also a popular and successful. The O.B minnow comes in two sizes, the 7" and 9". The 7" model weighs 1.5oz while the 9" weighs 3.5oz and both models come in 7 standard colors and 5 foil colors. The 7" Mag Shad features a flat-sided body so on a straight retrieve it has a much tighter vibration than the O.B. Minnow. The slimmer profile and sharper cut lip enables the bait to dig easier thus diving to greater depths. Because of this design a more popular technique with the Mag is to twitch and jerk it erratically inducing the strike.

Another innovative topwater bait from Optimum is the Ambitious Buzz. Top water excitement from a fish exploding on a buzzbait and the trademarked knobbed Optimum swimbait tail are captured in this new style lure. Twin blades rotate in opposite directions enabling it to get on plane quicker, true tracking, and deep sound penetration drawing fish from near and far. The Ambitious Buzz comes in several length wires and swimbait combinations that are sure to work at your favorite body of water. Baits available in 6" wire with 4" swimbait, 4" wire with 6" swimbait and now a 4" wire with 3" swimbait.

The Double Diamond Swimmers multi dimensional design is performance driven. Not only are the baits outline a diamond profile, but the body is also diamond shaped. The bait has three distinct actions: it tracks in a tight, zigzag pattern, it swims with its entire body quivering erratically, while churning water with a monstrous tail kick. The Swimmer`s body features a slot so it can be fished weedless with a weighted (or not) offset hook, or it can be rigged with an open hook bullet-type jighead when fishing open water. The Original Optimum (Magnum Optimum) is considered a middle of the road workhorse. This bait was built from the shorelines of Lake Casitas and Lake Castaic in Southern California. It didn't take long for the rest of the world to realize its potency! These swimbaits have the ability to cover a relatively wide spectrum of the water column, especially with a little practice and familiarizing yourself with how these baits fall. The Original Optimum swimbaits stand out as the best swimbait because they produce rapid, drastic changes in direction, and quick flaring when pulled off structure or cover. The Original Optimum is available in multiple sizes: 3" -1/2oz, 3.5"-5/8oz, 4" -3/4oz, 5" -1 1/8oz, 6" -2 1/4oz, 7" -3 1/4oz, 8" -4 1/8oz. and come in twenty-five different colors.

The Titan swimbaits feature a wider body profile enabling a front to back body roll and the capability of a faster retrieve speed. We kept the same trademarked Optimum knob tail so it properly displaces water and emitting the particular vibration as it swims through the water column. The 5" and 6" Titan is designed with an Eagle Claw weedless wire guard so these swimbaits can be fished in the thickest of cover without the fear of getting hung up!

The Tiny Titan may look small in appearance but the tight vibrating tail kick is equivalent to its bigger brothers. The Tiny Titan comes equipped with a 2/0 Gamakatsu hook that features a wire brush guard enabling the bait to be thrown into thicker cover. The down sized Titan is ideal when working around docks and tight structure and when the baitfish is in its earliest stages.

Optimum sourced out a well known Japanese lure builder and came up with the T's Reflex. The Reflex is a topwater bait made out of Jelutong wood so it is remarkably strong and durable. It features 15 coats of premium paint and has a beautiful foil finish to perfect its looks. The 3 piece jointed wooden lure swims with a deadly methodical waking action. It can be cranked to depths of up to 5-6 feet. It is 7" long and weighs 2.5oz. Available in 3 natural colors.
