The smallie beaver is one of my favorite baits to Texas rig or shaky head. The tail can be split into 2 pieces or left connected and I have caught fish using both presentations. White trash, green goby, and sprayed grass are my favorite colors, but there are many great choices to choose from. The design of the bait makes it appealing to bass. I like to rig it with a 1/16 or 1/8 jighead and hop it along the bottom. It has caught me plenty of smallmouth and largemouth. SBN: TNT

While not as popular as the bigger beavers the smallie beaver is just a deadly sometimes. When fishing very clear water this one bait I often go to. It works extremely well on 1/8 to 1/32oz sinker. The slow fall is deadly and use mine on a spinning rod and the lightest line possible. A lot of days in the spring I will go with a Senko early and when the sun gets up use one of these to catch the slightly deeper fish. With the light weight the green and brown colors look just like a small bluegill more so than any other plastic I have seen. I don't know that there is a better bait for pitching and fishing clear water on a sunny day. And this bait is kind of under the radar. Ish Monroe did a great article in Bassmaster a few years ago on these. He uses them for shallow suspended fish especially in the post spawn. He rigs his with a 1/32 oz sinker and pitches them to any shade he can find. I also think that's where these baits shine on suspended fish with light weights. But I also know people who use these on jig heads and have success. So don't limit yourself but without a doubt these are very nice baits to try.
