must have in tacklebox

This basic design has been around for years, but is still a staple in many boxes. This is an amazingly versatile bait. It can be cast long ways, pitched, used as a chugger, spitter, or sometimes a walker. This bait, along with some modifications, can do just about anything on top of the water. SN name: bd pettit

Old but still effective

With all the new high dollar topwaters out it is easy to forget about the original pop-r. But the fact remains it is still in many pros boats. While it may not have the spitting action of some of the newer baits for a slow slow chug next to thick cover it is hard to beat. While the finishes are not overly impressive the fish rarely complain and the hooks have gotten much better over the years. While I am a big fan of Splash-its and other new poppers I still keep several Pop-Rs in the boat. The Pop-R still has a role when fishing the heaviest cover when you need a bait that you can make alot of noise with while not moving the bait very far. For the classic pop...wait...wait...pop action you cant beat the original. At the low price its alot easier to bring yourself to modify the Pop-R if your into bait tinkering. In fact the first spitting poppers were not bought they were made from Pop-Rs. While it may not be new the original Rebel Pop-R should have a place in every serious bass anglers tacklebox. sb-mrbassky1
