Variable Brake System (VBS) uses centrifugal force rather than magnets to aid in controlling the cast for increased distance and adjustability.
Super Stopper is a one-way roller bearing that eliminates backplay for solid hooksets.
Assist Stopper is a back-up anti-reverse system that reduces the stress placed on the one-way roller bearing to increase durability.
Non-Disengaging Levelwind System (only on 400 and 401 models) allows the levelwind to track back and forth during the cast which reduces drastic line angles that cause unwanted friction and backlashes on wide-spool reels.
Metal Series Metal frames keep moving parts in precise alignment for increased efficiency and durability.
Two Post Quick Take Down by unscrewing the thumb screws the sideplate can be easily removed for maintenance or to adjust the VBS brake weights.
Rubber Handle Grip is comfortable and soft to the touch.

A great reel for the price
Michael Carter (Winchester, KY) 2/18/2009 12:21 PM
First off this reel isn't a Calcutta. But not many are. This is a good solid heavy duty reel. With prices on reels getting insane you cant beat the price of this reel. While it may not be the best it will get the job done and catch fish. It is surprisingly smooth and is very durable. I used one for Muskie fishing but I am sure it would work for swimbaits as well. I have heard of people wearing these out throwing big baits but I never had a problem. Just lob heavy baits and if you have the right rod it will do the work. There is a bait clicker which makes this reel ideal for shiner fishing, catfishing, or live trout fishing (just kidding). I totally understand that some people don't want to pay several hundred dollars for a reel. Expensive reels are nice but not everyone can afford them. The fact is a quality reel like this can do great as well. The best part about this reel is it doesn't backlash bad when you set it right making it great for the beginner swimbait fisherman. For some that would worth a little less casting distance. If your used to using Calcutta's or high quality top end reels you may well be disappointed with the Corvallis but if you need an affordable reel for swimbaits this would be my first choice. sb-mrbassky1
