A classic that still has its place

In the coldest water its hard to beat the rogue roll. A phrase that describes the subtle side roll that the rogue does to make it so effective. The rogue doesn't have the darting ability the Lucky craft and newer baits have but they don't have the subtle action a rogue does either. The rogue doesn't dive very deep but it goes deep enough for a good jerkbait bite especially in early spring. I change the hooks on mine and if you don't at least sharpen the stock hooks. Anytime the water is less than 50 the rattling rogue is one of my top jerkbait choices. It can work with less movement and more subtle twitches making it great for catching fish on slow days in tough conditions. The key with all jerkbaits is water clarity I like at least 3ft and prefer 5 or more. Also use light line 8-12 depending on cover any heavier and it kills the action. The silver black back is all you need but I also like gold at times. And flashy colors around smallies. When you get the right cadence the rogue is deadly and you will be able to see why its still so popular.
