The Spro BBZ-1 Shad 4 inch  was designed by Trophy bass hunter Bill Siemantel who spent two and a half years perfecting this swimbait. This bait is debatably the most realistic hard swimbait to come to the market. The bait comes in three different rates of fall, floater, slow sink and fast sink.

The Floater: can be fished from a dead stick, super slow retrieve to a fast retrieve and all speeds between without coming up out of the water. At a fast retrieve, the Spro BBZ-1 4 inch Shad swimbait demonstrates a very tight kick and throws a nice wake.

The Slow Sink: has a descent rate of approximately three inches per second near that of a Senko and is so well balanced that if you let it settle to the bottom and it will suspend off the treble hook.

The Fast Sink: has a rate of fall approximate to one foot per second for those looking for bass in deeper areas but it also can be fished in shallow water at a faster retrieve. Once again if you let the fast sink Spro BBZ-1 4 inch Shad go to the bottom its superior balance allows it to rest on its chin without falling on its side.

The best shad imitation I have seen
Michael Carter (Winchester, KY) 2/11/2009 4:43 PM
The BBZ shad is a nice option if you have shad in your lake. Its about the size of a deep diving crankbait or the ABT shad. I got the shallow runner and that's the one I would try first if you need to pick one. You can fish the shallow runner on top or let it sink and fish under the surface but it wont stay very deep. Each color had a unique look which is nice but I prefer the natural shad. I wish the bait had another treble but the hookups on bigger fish is fine. The action is great especially for a bait that size, it kicks with alot of tail action. It has the best action at slow speeds I have seen in a shad imitation. I like the fact that I have the option of fishing it slow but I usually fish my shad swimbaits in a stop and go erratic action. The BBZ shad is small enough so you can throw it on a regular rod and don't need a special outfit which appeals to lots of people on short budgets. There are some problems with the bait rolling on the cast but you can cast it a mile and if you take your time and lob the bait you find it alot easier. I haven't had any problems with the baits durability but watch the tail and if its loose I would glue it. The bait does do a 180 but you may not see the followers you do with bigger baits. I think you can experiment more with this bait than any other because of the wide range of actions it does well. Its good slow, it darts, it can be burned, and with the right cadence it could do its own walking the dog. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is the single hook. I would like to have the option for a second. But is a great option if you fish lakes with shad. sb-mrbassky1

Great introductory swimbait
Brent Pettit (Osgood, IN) 1/12/2009 11:24 PM
I haven't had much time on the water with this bait yet, but I can already tell that it will be effective for the smallmouth. With three different sink rates, like its big brother the original BBZ, you can cover almost the entire water column. The floater has amazing action even at the slowest speeds. On a windy day, it makes its own action and could be very effective deadsticked in clear water. The floater could also take the place of a buzzbait in most situations. The slow sink does just that, sinks really slow. Almost too slow. I have not fished the fast sink at all, but will probably be buying one in the future to cover water faster. SN name: bd pettit

great swimming motion
Trevor Tippetts (Salt Lake City, UT) 1/12/2009 12:24 AM
I like this swimbait a lot and the action is better than I expected it to be for only being 4 inches. I got the slow sink version and let it sink to 10 feet, and then would twitch it back to the boat and it looked like a fleeing shad in the water. I was very disappointed I didn't catch a fish with this bait because it looks so good in the water. The natural shad is a great color and the thread on the fin adds some attraction to the bait. It’s a great shad imitation and has a very cool swimming motion. SBN: TNT

BBz1 4 inch shad fast sink reveiw
David Giudice (Madison, AL) 12/16/2008 2:08 PM
I got a hold of a bbz1 shad fast sink this is a great bait that will sink 1 foot a second, and you can fish the entire water column. you can fish this bait slow with twitches and it has a great action. you can even use this bait as a sight fishing bait because it stands on its nose when it reaches the bottom this is a sweet deal for many of us. the bbz1 4 inch shads also match the hatch on a great many lakes this is a surefire winner in my book I highly suggest this bait to anyone looking for a great bite. grapeape52
