Great bait if you know how to fish it

These types of baits have been around for a while. They are famous in the Carolina's especially. The trailer is the first part a fluke is by far the most popular trailer but anything will work. Just try to match your forage and conditions. The key with this bait is making some type of contact. The most popular way is to make it bump along the bottom and the blade will kick up debris which is how it got a popular name "ditch witch". It also works contacting other structure like when Aaron Martens bumped his off bridge pilings and almost won the classic. It works on schooling fish and suspended fish but I think it excels when you can bounce it off of something. I throw mine on a spinnerbait rod and fluorocarbon line. What ever setup you use make sure you have good sensitivity to feel what the bait is doing. And don't be afraid to change the blade size a little if you need to. The hornet may be a situation bait but when the right situation comes up it could be on fire and there is a good chance you will be showing fish something different. Its especially deadly for fishing clearer lakes where bass key on bait fish and you need to cover a lot of flats early in the year. Which is why a lot of people were throwing this type bait at Hartwell last year. sb-mrbassky1
