great springtime dragging/swimming bait

I am the first to admit I am not a grub guy. The only time I pull out the grubs is in the spring time on clear rocky lakes. But at that time in early spring between the time winter ends and fish go into post spawn the grub is one of my favorite baits. The grub will still catch fish year round but this the time I use them primarily. There are lots of good grubs but yamamoto makes the best I have seen and they are still fairly cheap. I like dragging mine on gravel flats with scattered stumps and rock. It will work anywhere these is gravel points, flats, etc. The key is make bottom contact and vary speeds. I like using the lightest sinker I can with the wind and depth and work it slow swimming on the bottom. This is an automatic technique on Dale Hollow when I visit in the spring and while other baits work some days the grub is reliable and when the bite is off its the best. I go with the 5inch most of the time it catches bigger fish and small fish still hit it but I will downsize if its really tough. If you fish clear lakes try swimming/dragging a grub on the bottom in the spring but don't limit it to that time and you might find other times you love it as well.

Yamamoto single tail grubs may not be used as much as before, but they definitely still produce. The 5" on a 3/16 oz dart head in color 297 or as a jig trailer for quality fish. You can fish this so many different ways. I prefer to work it slowly along the bottom like a football head jig in rocky areas. Great for all species of bass. Swimbait Nation: bfishin.
