The brush hog is a great bait but the baby brush hog is probably more used. It is the ideal size for a creature bait in most places. I can remember buying my first pack of baby brush hogs long before I heard the term creature bait. It took my a while to figure out how to use them and now I use them as trailers, for flipping, Carolina rig, and swimming. Its probably the most versatile plastic bait in my box. I still only use two colors green pumpkin and watermelon but I dye the appendages in dirty water and make modifications like everybody, you cant resist it! Its one of my favorite plastics for flipping I like a beaver a lot but when I want to swim the bait some as well I like a brush hog or baby brush hog. Its bulk and length make it ideal for swimming around grass and you can cover water swimming it then stop and fish it slow around isolated cover for a good 1-2 punch with the same bait. I think its a bait that a lot of people don't talk about as well but I know it catches big fish for lots of people the profile is bigger than the newer creature baits. I guess if your deciding when to use a brush hog think slow fall and lift the best part about this bait is has one the slowest falls you can find. It definitely falls into the must have category because there will be times when it is the best option if you just learn to look for those times.

Great crawdad imitator. The watermellon red is phenominal for carolina rigging in deep, clear lakes. Dark colors are also great for flipping into bushes and laydowns in stained water.
