This is the most versatile soft body frog I have ever used. It is designed for burning on the surface.

A quieter frog

Of the two types of soft plastic frogs I use this one is the most finesse. The paddle tail frogs make more noise but the horny toad is better when you just want something more subtle. The legs don't make as much noise and also make the horny toad easier to pull through the thickest cover. The head is extra beefy to keep you hook in place. The downside is you need to really drive home the hook with these. I like to skip mine and fish mats mostly but will use it in scattered grass that is too thick for buzzbaits. The horny toad isn't a bait I use much in tournaments just because I don't see much water for it. But it does catch big fish and is a major player in tournaments farther south. If fish are not taking the paddle tails go to the horny toad before you give up. I use mine on a 7'2mh rod. Unless I am fishing thick mats and need extra length or backbone. I also fish mine on a 7mh spinning rod for skipping. With braid you can set the hook with a spinning rod in open water. The biggest problem is the bait rolling over at fast speeds but you can add weight to your hook to help that. The bait will sink fast but that's a fair trade off if you want to fish faster. This isn't a bait for everybody but if you fish grass it comes in hand.

Nice Subtle Action

The Horny Toad has a nice subtle action. I had a lot of bites on it last year during the post spawn fishing around wood cover. Unfortunately, the hook up ratio wasn't very good. I had a hard time getting a hook in the fish. Adding a frog hook to the top of the bait should help get a better hook into the fish. The Green Pumpkin Pearl is a great color combo. This is the best open water frog of this type that I have found. It gives you a more subtle look in the water that other paddle type frogs. My favorite thing about this frog is that you can stop it in holes in vegetation and it will sink down into the hole and swim like a real frog would. Fish with braid and screw in frog hooks, and you won't be disappointed. SN name: bd pettit
